Homo (Orientation)
Homo refers to individuals who feel attraction towards those of the same or similar gender(s). It is sometimes used as a synonym to gay, as "homo" has a more medical reputation.[1]
There is no one way to experience same-gender attraction.[2]
Etymology edit
The term comes from the prefix hom-, which in turn comes from the Greek root homos-, meaning "one and the same" or "belong to two or more jointly."[3]
Flags & Symbols edit
The rainbow flag is often used as the homo- flag and was designed by Gilbert Baker. It was first displayed in a Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration on June 25, 1978. This flag has gone through many changes throughout the years, including the removal of the pink and turquoise stripe.[4]
A general/specific homo- flag was designed by Tumblr user pastelroswell through a submission to Beyond-MOGAI-Pride-Flags. Each color is paired with a similar color to represent attraction to and relationships between similar genders, while also visually illustrating that homo- individuals aren't necessarily attracted to the exact same gender exclusively. The purple was chosen to represent the color's history as a symbolic color in the LGBTQ+ community.[5]
An homoattractional flag was designed by Beyond-MOGAI-Pride-Flags.[6]
