Puretécentia is a term for those who feel as though they are too young to understand their identity. One may not understand their gender identity, sexuality, romantic orientation, or any other part of their identity. This term may be used to describe a child or otherwise young individual without the expectations of them understanding their attraction or gender.[1]
This may include:[1]
- A child who does not understand the concept of gender
- A child who lives their life without presumed gender roles
- A child who does not understand the concept of pronouns
- An innocent child who does not understand the concept of gender and has crushes regardless
This term is not to be used as a label or identity, but rather as a descriptor for those who fit under the definition.[1] It may be used by age regressors, littles in systems, or similar identities as well.[2]
Etymology
The term comes from the French word pureté, meaning "purity," and the Latin word centia, meaning "innocence."[1]
History
The term was coined by LGBTA Wiki user Cryptocrew on February 8, 2021, with the definition being finalized on February 10, 2021.[3]
