Man, also known as Guy or Dude, is a term used to describe an individual who identifies as a man, regardless of their assigned gender at birth.[1][2] The term Boy is also used, usually to describe a younger man.[3]

The man flag was created by Tumblr user Trintinic on December 29, 2017. The dark blue represents binary men, the light blue represents individuals who are partially men, and the white represents multigender individuals who include man in their identity.[4]
The Mars symbol is usually used to represent men or masculinity.[5]

Perceptions and Discrimination[edit | edit source]
A phenomenon that MensLine Australia describes as the "Man Box" highlights the harmful stereotypes associated with being a man. These stereotypes include the idea that men should always act strong, don't do household chores, have as many sexual partners as possible and never say no to sex, and always use violence when necessary. There is also the idea that men should care about looking good, but that spending too much time on one's looks is not "manly." A study done by MensLine Australia concluded that these stereotypes lead to suicidal thoughts, road traffic accidents and bullying.[6]
